Welcome to the “rootin-tootin” edition of Guns of the Old West!
The Spring 2022 cover features the Uberti Hardin Outlaw. A beautiful case colored, top-break, single action revolver is Uberti’s homage to the Old West outlaw John Wesley Hardin. We take a look back at John’s life and how this tribute came to be.
Also in this issue, gun scribe Steve Barlow, tells of his experiences at Rancho Concepcion. author Rick Barram gives us the history and usage of the U.S. Model 1816 Musket. This smoothbore musket became the standard issue long arm of the U.S. military. Frank Jardim discusses a couple of post-Civil War battles the U.S. Army fought with hostile native Americans. In one of these fights, a large group of Indians were taken by surprise when the small force of soldiers and civilian contractors they were attacking, and gun-writing doctor Will Dabbs, comes a retro piece on the Colt Frontier Scout. This out-of-production .22 RF revolver had all the Old West flair of the Colt SAA, but was scaled down and used inexpensive .22 LR fodder.
